How to Deal with Panic Attacks Without Medication

How to Deal with Panic Attacks Without Medication, Panic AwayFor many people, panic attacks are a part of everyday life.  Any number of situations can trigger one.  Maybe being around too many people creates anxiety, or giving a speech in front of a crowd of people, or simply leaving the house. Every person’s attacks strike for different reasons and depend on the severity of the individual’s anxiety.

People who are prone to panic attacks are often quick to try to medicate the problem with some sort of prescription drug.  They’re looking for something that will calm them down fast, in order to ward off the racing heartbeat, flushed face, labored breathing and other physical symptoms that stem from anxiety.

But it isn’t necessary to use medication to deal with panic attacks. There are ways to naturally calm yourself so that the feeling of alarm subsides. You just need to learn some techniques for how to deal with panic attacks without medication.

1. Deep Breathing

One of the most essential things to do when you are hit with a panic attack is to breathe deeply, just as soon as you sense an attack beginning. If you can learn to be aware of the signs, you’re more likely to lessen the symptoms of a panic attack before they become overwhelming. At the start of an attack, your face may feel warm as the blood rushes to your cheeks. Your heart rate may increase and/or your breathing may become shallow.

Regardless of your symptoms, close your eyes and try to get out of the situation that is causing the attack. Then, breathe deeply while counting to ten. By this point your symptoms should be fading, which means you have successfully stopped a full-fledged panic attack. Learning how to do this effectively takes time and practice, but eventually you’ll get the hang of it and your attacks will stop.

2. Meditation

Anyone vulnerable to panic attacks should learn how to meditate, even if they’ve never considered it before.  Not all forms of meditation are associated with a religion or philosophy; some meditation is used simply to regain your composure and refocus your thoughts. First, sit cross-legged on the floor or lie on your back, then breathe deeply and clear your mind.

As soon as you are relaxed, physically and mentally, think about the anxious situations that have caused you to want to learn how to deal with panic attacks.  Then imagine yourself in the same situations but reacting differently — confident and unworried.  Practice this technique often enough and you will be able to get rid of your panic attacks completely and handle any situations in your life with confidence.

There are a number of other techniques to rid oneself of panic attacks. The challenge is to find the methods that work for you.  But rest assured, it is possible to learn how to deal with panic attacks without medication.  One great program to help you do this is Barry Joe McDonagh’s Panic Away program.  Panic Away has helped thousands of people stop having panic attacks, the natural way.
