How to Stop Panic Attacks

One of the most frightening experiences is having a panic attack.  When the feeling begins to take over your body, it is important you know how to stop panic attacks.

Knowing how to stop these attacks will better prepare you for future attacks and you’ll be calmer when the attack takes place.  I have experienced several panic attacks through my life and after the first, I immediately researched how to handle panic attacks to better prepare myself for the future.

By understanding this, the severity of my attacks went down and I handled them much easier.  Here are some tips that I picked up on how to stop panic attacks that have prepared me for future attacks.

First, when you start the panic attack, keep telling yourself that you will survive because you have gone through this before.  Keeping a positive frame of mind during the attack helps bring the attack to an end.  When going through a panic attack, your body and head will feel very hot.  To counter this, get yourself a cup of cold water that will help cool down the body.

Next, do something that focuses your mind elsewhere.  By drawing your attention away from the attack, it will begin to relax the body and will help get over the panic attack.  Some of the best things to focus on to stop panic attacks are a funny movie or television show.  It won’t require much thinking but it will easily get your attention.  Even watching a funny video on the internet will work, just as long as your mind is elsewhere, it can help you bring this scary attack to an end.

Another way to avert your mind and stop panic attacks is to have a conversation with someone.  Talking to someone will mentally calm you down and begin to get over your panic attack.  If there is no one else around, have a conversation with yourself.  While it does not seem like a sane thing to do, talking to yourself is an activity that will remove your mind from your situation and calm you down.

These are ways that will help stop panic attacks when they start to take place.  Getting through your first panic attack successfully will give you confidence that you can handle future attacks.  Knowing how to stop these attacks will remove the fear of future attacks, causing them to happen a lot less.

My Experience Stopping Panic Attacks

When suffering my first panic attack, I was an emotional wreck.  I did not know what was happening or how to it.

After managing to get through it, I wanted to know how to stop panic attacks in the future.  My next panic attack happened and I felt mentally prepared.  I drank a cup of cold water then stood in front of my television, watching my favorite show, The Office.

By watching the show, my mind was tuned in elsewhere which calmed me down and stopped my panic attack.  Successfully getting though this attack gave me confidence for the future that I can handle them if they come again.
